Is the winner of this U.K. modelling show plus-sized?
Categories: Celebs & Entertainment
According to this post on Diet Blog, the winner of a U.K. modeling show had trouble breaking into the fashion world after her 2006 win. The reason? At 5'11, 154 pounds and American size 10, Jen Hunter just might be too heavy for the modeling world. As such, she's joined an agency as a plus-sized model.
When asked about her size, she responded, "This is what a real woman should look like." I agree -- size 10 is not fat. Nonetheless, Hunter was reprimanded on the show by celerity judge Rachel Hunter for trying to prove that larger women can break into modeling. But I think Rachel is wrong to criticize -- if Jen was voted the winner of a modeling show by the British public, I think it's proof that the public would like to see more normal sizes on the runway. Don't you think?

I'm so sick of people always patronizing fat people and being biased against thin people. Too thin is bad and too fat is bad too! Stop saying fat is beautiful because it's just encouraging people to live an unhealthy lifestyle.

I think this girl looks healthy, but I'd have to see more pictures to be sure. Size is totally dependent on body structure. On her, a 10 looks to be a healthy size. Personally when I was a size 10 I was overweight and very overfat. My healthy size is a 2. I have a very small bone structure, despite being tall. I'm a med student, so I'd like to point out a few things:
1. BMI is WORTHLESS. Get your body fat measured.
2. Plenty of girls are very healthy at size 0-6, and in fact the vast majority of female celebrities who are considered the most beautiful (and desirable by men- see askmen.com's top 100) fall in this range.
3. Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 then, but sizes have changed. She was a 6 by today's standards.
4. Anorexia is no where NEAR as prevalent as overweight and obesity. Shouldn't mothers worry more about all the fat people influencing their daughters' habits?
5. Those of you railing against thin girls are guilty of exactly the same thing you're angry about the anti-fatties doing. If you want acceptance, try offerring it in return.
It is part of my job now and will be moreso over the next few years to tell patients when they need to lose a few. This model doesn't appear to need it, but some size 10s do. It is NOT my job, nor is it appropriate for me to tell strangers on the street that they need to lose weight. However, they sometimes feel the need to comment on my weight (my body fat % is perfect), and in that case I'll definitely tell them they are overweight. You get what you give.

I think that Jen looks absolutely fabulous and very sexy.
I am sick to DEATH of all those twigs that walk around looking like the are refugees from a famine.
NO WOMAN that is healthy can or SHOULD maintain that type of weight. It is unhealthy and gives a poor role model for young girls. No WONDER there are thousands of anorexic young girls and women in this country!
It is time to let the fashion industry know that most of us want to see models that look more like us, and not some alien beings.

Sick of seeing these skinnier than popsickle stick models strutting, wearing clothes that mainstream 'people' would never wear.
These are the abnormals - the normals are the 10's 12's and even 14's in America.
It is the need for these abgnormals to be the epitomy of fashion that is driving our young people and others to binging and purging etc because they feel they are not good enought by these so called trend setters.

I also believe she looks great! The models are not living in our world or they would know that real women have curves. And our men don't mind a bit.....

If Rachel Hunter thinks a size 10 is fat - it's no wonder she is a loser at marriage, (hello, Rod Stewart), dancing, (balled like a baby when voted off Dancing with the "B" Stars) and modeling (judging a UK modeling contest Pahleeese can you say "has been?").
My advise to Rachel is starve yourself a little more and go and try to find an old geezer to beg to hire you as a trophy wife - you're washed up. Too bad Phil Specter isn't available.

Finally, a normal size woman!!!! To be fair, yes, there are some size 5, 7 and 9 woman that look beautiful. It depends on your height, etc. It doesn't look normal when a 5'11" woman only weighs 115 lbs. She looks beautiful and should be proud of how she looks. In addition, she doesn't fit the profile of a plus-sized model. She looks like a normal size model - not a waifer!!!!!!!!!

I think she looks fabulous! What is WRONG with Rachel Hunter? Is she just that STUPID or just that BLIND? This woman is beautiful. (I am a model and actress, myself).

Finally a normal sized model. I'm not saying that size 5 and 7 model look bad, only if they are 5'11" and weigh 110 lbs - ridiculous! Look if she were only 5'4" and weighed that, maybe then I would consider her to be a plus-sized model. Otherwise, to me she looks like a regular sized model - beautiful. Enough with the anorexic look.

She is 5'11", 154lbs and a size 10, but must work as a "plus-size" model. Just how small do they think such a tall woman can be and still be healthy and energetic. Jen Hunter is obviously beautiful and smart. Women need to quit buying into the idea that they need to be walking skeletons to be attractive. While some people are naturally quite thin, most suffer and risk their health to look fashionably thin. I sometimes think that this ideal of extreme thinness acutally causes some women to become obese. They (perhaps unconsciously) develop the idea that if they cannot be extremely thin, they might as well give up, sit down, and eat everything in sight.

I don't agree with you at all. I think that while many models are too thin ("too thin" defining someone who modifies their food intake to achieve an ideal that they only meet by eating less and/or exercising more than is "reasonable"). This woman is "chubby". Of course she defends her weight, who can blame her. Hovwever it is so annoying how overweight people point at those who are less fat than their are and declaring them "skinny", instead of realizing and admitting to themselves that it is they who are the problem!! Take a look at the rest of the world. How many American size 10 do you see in other countries? Not many!!! Just because this country is the world leader in obesity and overweight, doesn't make those above-average weights acceptable, or the new norm. Fat people: Wake-up! Start eating healthy, exercise moderately, and don't spend your time trying to deflect attention from you by labeling others as too thin, or yourself as "average weight" . Of course you are "average" if you compare yourself to obese folks. Stop denying that there is anything wrong with you and develop a healthy lifestyle, that will automatically make you slim (which is not a size 10!). (In case you are wondering... I eat all I want (but only healthy food), have NEVER been on a diet, exercise 2times a week, and I am 5.11 , 135 lbs. and a size 6. I have been that weight for the last 10 years.

Size 10, Size 12 and Size 14 women are fat. When you talk about "women with curves" it's just a euphenism for saying that they are fat.
I am a size 0 and for the record, I am not anorexic, sickly or abnormal. I am fit and strong, and in my late 40's. I'm never sick, never miss a day of work and feel wonderful. Most women my age are old, fat and frumpy - I'd rather be dead than be like that. It's just a sign that they have no control and don't give a damn about how they look, to themselves or others.
Size 0 and (damn proud of it at age 47)!

I can't imagine why Rachel Hunter would criticize her for trying to prove that larger women can break into the modeling world. Rachel is not your typical size 2 or 4 model, she's about a size 10 herself. Maybe she should take a look in the mirror.

For high fashion she is , sadly, considered plus-sized. For real life, she is healthy, and on the skinny side. Bottom line is clothing looks better on very thin models, so designers consider anyone larger than a size 2 plus sized. She is a lovely girl but sadly the fashion industry is slow on catching up with the beauty of curves movement, but soon they will come too. For instance they are banning models w/ certain BMI's, and on Vogue's cover a few months ago they placed Jennifer Hudson on the cover, surely a sign that they are acknowledging the need for real women to be represented in the fashion industry.
