The Raw Foods movement has been gaining a lot of momentum lately, and with all the chemicals that go into foods these days, it's not hard to see why. But why is raw food better than cooked foods? And is it really worth it for us to switch over?
Mark's Daily Apple took a look into raw foods by
interviewing one of the driving forces behind it, Chef Dan, and here are some interesting tidbits:
"Why go raw? To feel great, look great, live a quality life, spend your money on yourself and not your doctor, make the most of every day, save the environment, perpetuate good karma, save the human race and the world we live in.
What about protein? Elephants, whales, giraffes, silver back gorillas, in fact the largest and strongest animals on the planet, are all vegetarian. How much protein do you need for [expletive deleted] sake?
Why eat only organic foods? Pesticides, bleaches, coloring, flavorings, preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers, homogenizers, fillers, starches, dairy, genetically engineered food, processed and refined sugars and salts... are all poison and will kill you; sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly.
How can you tell if someone is a raw/living foodist? They are not overweight. They don't have offensive body odors/breath. They glow from the inside. They are happy. They have a ton of energy. They have a positive outlook on life. They are caring and loving. They are on a path of self development and higher consciousness."
So it would seem that eating raw foods is the answer to all the world's problems. Do you agree or disagree? What's your take on raw foods?

I am a long time mostly vegan person. I have come across a lot of raw fooders.
I love raw food but in my experience, when I ate raw food %100 of the time, I grew cold, lost energy and got ghostly pale and didn't digest my food. When I did this, I believed that going raw would "save" me, but it did not.
It wasn't until I read some Chinese medicine that said we should eat with the seasons and too much raw food stresses your spleen. I had all the classic symptoms of someone who was "Too yin" and raw food only exacerbates it. The minute I started incorporating hot, warm and spicier foods into my life, I got better. The warmth and energy provided by the hot foods felt wonderful and as time went on, I got color back into my face.
I am a big proponet of eating with the seasons. When it's hot eat more raw as the warmth of the sun supports you. When it's winter, we need more internal warmth and that is why we go for soups. It's very natural and good for you.
