Tempted by treats? Let the moment pass

Why?
I want to prevent a cancer recurrence -- I developed breast cancer three years ago -- and my husband's doctor urged him to drop 10 pounds. So we restocked our kitchen with healthy foods -- we nixed sweets and soda and acquired a low-sugar, low-fat, no-red-meat diet loaded with fruits and veggies. It's gone well. We've lost weight -- John shed 35 pounds; I lost 14 -- and we love how we're fueling our bodies. Still, it wasn't easy.
Treats are tempting. Giving up brownies was hard to swallow. Then it hit me: it takes seconds to consume junk. What's gained? An ounce of pleasure, maybe -- but mostly, we want more and we eat more. Keep it up, and we pack on pounds and compromise our health. Ever felt guilty in such a scenario? I have. So here's my latest plan: let the moment pass. Once I'm beyond my craving, I'm happy. I like how I feel in my skin right now. I'm not giving that up.
I recently read this quote: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."
My sentiments exactly.
Note: I am by no means advocating a lifestyle that promotes "skinniness." I do encourage everyone to achieve a healthy weight, though -- this is what feels so good.

My mom was diagnosed with type II diabetes and instantly changed her diet and started exercising more. Her doctor was blown away by how well she was doing and that she took the diagnosis seriously (I guess that not many people do, initially.) I am very proud of her for all of her changes to her diet and her new way of living. One of the things she told me that helped her the most was thinking, "If I eat this sugary piece of candy, I am really only going to enjoy it for 30 seconds. 30 seconds is just not worth it compared to the rest of my life." Now that she has been eating healthy for almost a year, she doesn't crave sweets like she used to. She told me that the one thing she noticed the most was the lack of mood swings from various sugar highs. She is more in control of her emotions.
