How Many Calories ... in a Margarita
Sometimes when I'm out for a drink with friends, I'm just not into the bitter taste of beer or wine -- I'd prefer something fruitier, something that's tasty ans sweet but has a bit of zing too. That's when I order a Margarita. Liquid calories add up really quickly -- I know that a glass of wine has about 100 calories and a beer has about 150 - 200 calories -- but I tend to turn a blind eye when it comes to fruity drinks because I know they're probably pretty bad for me, both in terms of the calories and the alcohol content. So I'm wondering, how many calories are in a margarita?
A) 240 cal
B) 400 cal
C) 550 cal
D) 740 calThe answer is D) 740 calories, according to this article on Forbes on the most fattening drinks. Considering that an average person should be consuming between 1500 and 2000 calories, that is a pretty scary number -- one margarita is the equivalent of half of your daily calories. And who just has one?
Other cocktails that made the list included the Pina Colada, Long Island Iced Tea, the white Russian and the Mai Tai. So the moral of the story is: if you must drink and you're counting calories, stick to the wine or the light beer.

Ha not to mention the fact that after you consume three, you are going to need a nice greasy burger and fries to finish it off. And, if it is friday, happy hour needless to say morphs into binge drinking (especially if you are a 23 year old immature single law student), and before you know it you have consumed 6 shots of JD, the two original margharitas, three beers, two red bulls, and 20 buffalo wings. Then you wake up at noon and do nothing but eat greasy omelets and pedialyte to cure your hangover. How many calories is this?
