Daily Fit Tip: Relax while you're waiting

It was a hot day, and late in the afternoon to boot. We had been stuck in the same traffic line-up for 20 minutes. Two friends were in the car with me, swearing, yelling and cursing over the traffic, complaning about how unfair it was to be held up with long. In reality, they were just making it worse by bringing so much negative energy into the car. I took a book out of my purse and promptly tuned them out. My commute was much better than theirs -- I guarantee it.
We're all bound to end up waiting -- whether in traffic or in a line-up or at the doctors office. For the sake of your mental health, occupy yourself and you'll find the time drifts by. I do this by carrying a book with me almost everywhere I go, and if I don't have one, I play tetris or blackjack on my cell phone. Even when I'm running late for an important meeting, distracting myself while I wait for the bus or in traffic helps take the edge off.
