Daily Fit Tip: How to Eat Like a Hot Chick
If eating right and getting enough physical activity is about making permanent healthy lifestyle changes well then OK, sign me up. That doesn't mean I'm not still jealous of those skinny "hot" girls who seem to eat whatever they want without ever gaining a pound. But thanks to authors Jodi Lipper and Cerina Vincent, and their book How to Eat Like a Hot Chick, the secret is out on how to eat what you want and still be thin and fit: moderation.
The book says that "hot chicks" eat what they want, but they understand how to do it in moderation and balance things out. Want chocolate cake for breakfast? Go ahead! But you'll need to have something really light and healthy for lunch and dinner.

Moderation is the #1 thing people have taken and have ignored it. Eating small things throughout the day has people eating less and staying fuller longer. We need to prractice this lifestyle again for health.

I agree with Jared. My obese family and friends dont eat enough or they binge on junk ALL day long and go for hefty portions and/or seconds when they finally do eat. I'd starve if I waited that long to feed myself or my kids!
Also I hate this idea that all these overweight kids are being served DIET SODA by their parents because they're too busy tossing processed/prepackaged foods on their plates. It's not that hard to plan a healthy meal. Healthy snacks in between meals are great for us AND KIDS! Eat more often and less portions and don't forget to couple a protein with that carbohydrate.

Yes, moderation is the key. However, one should cut down on junk foods, too. Also it should not be a drudgery to do it. Start out small or just with one or two items. As the days go by, add more to your list. In addition to all that, physical activities. Moderation also come to play there also. At first, forget about health clubs, buying expensive equipment such as treadmills, weights etc. Just get out and walk. Try 1 mile a day. Then increase the distance as the weeks go by. Hilly terrain are fine but dont overdo it. If you have access to a pool, an Olympic size pool would be great, try swimming laps. Don;t be in a hurry. Just do laps. Keep in mind moderation. Try a lap or two, if that is all you can do, don't be embarrassed by it. Just keep practicing take a break between each try. As each day goes by ad a lap or few to your regimine. I would say you should see some results after a couple of weeks. I did this when I was in college. At age 33, I was physically pathetic. A lifeguard at the college's pool gave me these guidelines to follow. So, from the first week of school to the end of the following summer I had lost about 40 pounds and from a waist line of 44 to 38 inches. He was telling me that biggest mistake people make is they expect overnight results. It does not work that way. It may take just as long to take the weight off as it did putting it on.

This means no buying that jumbo box of cookies and watching TV in the dark while you're eating. If you do that, all of the sudden the three cookies you were going to eat really turns into 103 cookies. The momentum will keep you going and before you know it; whoops! all the cookies are gone. Time to go to Costco again and get another jumbo box of cookies for tomorrow. Then the whole process is repeated day after day. Then the person wonders why they're overweight.

I'm soon to be 57 & weigh just a little over 100 lbs. (I'm almost 5'5"). My family are all what I call "large, economy size" (I'm 1/2 Italian). My cousins used to accuse me of being anorexic as I wasn't as large as them, & accused my parents of not feeding me enough. Thing is, I eat quite well & quite often. My breakfast consists of a banana, a Dole fruit & custard cup & either coffee cake or muffins. Lunch is a sandwich, & dinner is either meat/chicken, rice/potatoes & a vegetable. Oh, yes... & of course, dessert! I was always told to eat when you're hungry, not just because it's time. I've maintained my weight since high school.

Just the subject line alone is a turn off. Hot chicks know how to eat? Anorexia and bulemia are unfortunately medical conditions that hot chicks tout.
I find this article moronic and lacking substance. While eating moderately and exercising is key for good health, marketing it in this way is a way to dumb the society down.

Read the book, Lin. You're making a bad assumption, and it's real funny. You'll enjoy it. The authors of "How to Eat Like a Hot Chick" eat quite healthfully and advocate that we don't have to be skinny to be hot -- a very important message!

Alas, I eat very sensibly just like they recommend, but will probably never be a 'hot chick.'
Oh well. Next lifetime maybe.
Glad to hear the suggestions are actually good; so many of these things are just silly.
(More silliness can always be found at http://crankyfitness.blogspot.com/, even though there a distinct lack of Hotness there).

My husband lost 40 lbs. this summer by cutting his portions, and not cutting anything out. Granted he eats well to start with, now he just doesn't eat as much.

A person should get 2 and 1/2 cups of RAW fruits and vegetables per day. Everytime you go to eat something, just picture those cups. Have you filled them up? Usually, the answer is no. That always helps me opt for something healthy.

Our local McDonald's and Wendy's have helped me cut back on french fries. They come out of the fryers hot and crisp, but these fast food joints only serve the fries which have been sitting long enough to get mushy, soggy, and limp.
And I will not pay a buck and a half for a small fizzy soda .. that's ridiculous!

Did it ever occur to any of you that some of us just happen to like food?
God help us if we're born into a world that tells us we need to eat only certain foods lest we trade longevity for some fun along the way to where we all wind up anyway.

I've recently changed my 'diet' to include only foods that are not prepared or processed. It's alot easier than I thought. Actually, it's just sensible eating. I still however treat myself to an ice cream cone. I eat all day long, choosing healthy foods. I weigh about 115 and am 5'5. I've always weighed this. Once I got down below 100 and when I looked in the mirror, decided I WAS TOO DAM SKINNY. It's all about the moderation. Just ask yourself, am I full? Drink water with your meals and you WILL fill up faster.

For breakfast I have 1 glass of juice,a piece of fruit, and a small bowl of oatmeal, mid morning I will grab another piece of fruit or some celery or carrots, lunch is generally a small salad with either grilled tuna or grilled chicken, mid afternoon another piece of fruit or some raw veggys, dinner with my hubby and daughter is generally a small salad, meat(no matter what it is it is weighed to be 3 oz.) steamed veggys, and then once a week I have some type of potato, rice or noodle....sometimes at night while watching tv I will eat another piece of fruit or some more veggys....OH and I also drink a gallon or more of water a day!
I walk to and from work( about 3 miles each way) I walk all day at work ,I am a waitress....I work out 4 days a week at home doing various exercise cd's or just go for a long walk with the dog.
I am 5foot 7inches and I am still considered obease by my doctors... I weigh between 197-202 daily!! So what am I doing wrong????
I have been to a nutrionalist and she tells me to cut my 4 oz. of juice down to 2, other then that she tells me I am doing everything right....so someone tell me how I can get back down to 135-140 !!!

Trish, believe it or not, but I don't think you're eating enough! When you don't eat enough calories to sustain your body's needs, your body starts to conserve the fat that it has (it goes into survival mode) and your metabolism slows down. You need more energy in your diet - you need more fuel to burn. I would recommend eating more carbs - go for mostly whole grains - rice, pasta, etc. Try couscous, it's super easy to make. The oatmeal is excellent, but make sure it's made with real, whole oats, not the instant stuff. Have some rice cakes or crispbread topped with low-fat houmous or spreadable cheese. The whole grain aspect is important, as it creates energy that is released more slowly, not the quick burst of energy you get from eating something like a cookie (& then feel immediately tired afterwards!). I was having the same problem as you, I was eating hardly any calories, but I wasn't losing the weight. So I increased the amoung of carbs and suddenly, things began to happen. I lost almost 60lbs and have kept it off for the past 7 years!

Trish,
I also agree that you're probably not getting enough calories throughout your day to sustain your physical activity. After the birth of my second child 2 years ago, I struggled to lose my 25 pounds quickly so I could get back to my original weight of 135 pounds (I'm 5'7"). I jumped back into my regular 2 hour workouts - running 3-5 miles a day combined with aerobics & strength training. I thought if I stuck to a strict 1,000 to 1,200 calorie diet that the wieght would just fly off. After it didn't, I met with a trainer who upped my caloric intake & now over a year later, all the weight is gone plus some. I find by adding lean proteins with veggies throughout the day really helps me stave off hunger & keeps me full of energy. Also, try adding a handful of almonds or pine nuts daily for a snack, too (or using them atop of a spinach salad) for adding a more healthy fat with protein.
Good luck - you're on the right track!

I have worked in the restaurant business for years. When people eat out they will order a salad- (drenched in blue cheese dressing), a diet drink, then a meal cooked in saturated fat. Dessert is usually a must- so they MIGHT order something with 'no sugar ADDED'. And we wonder why so many Americans are obese. No brain power. Stick with grilled or baked food, light dressing, healthful drink (water is great), and fruit for dessert. Cut out snacks, take daily walks and watch the pounds disappear.
