Does your child have food allergies?
Categories: Nutrition & Supplements
Do you know if your child has any food allergies? Nuts, milk and even some fruits may cause your youngster to have strong to mild allergic reactions. The odd thing is that some parents may not recognize these are allergies at all.The reason? Because there is a difference between food allergies and food intolerances. There is a medical difference, although both conditions are commonly connected by the public. Food intolerances are not as drastic as allergies, but allowing food allergens to stay in one's diet can be filled with consequences.
The introduction of new foods, for example, needs to be done slowly and surely to ensure food allergies are discovered early, even if there is no family history of disease. In other words, be cautious and observant.

The worst part is that the medical community is so incompetent at diagnosing food allergies. My nearly 3 year old son started having bloody stools at age 4 months while exclusively breastfed. The pediatrician kept writing it off as a rectal fissure, but his stools were too loose to cause a rectal fissure. By the time he was properly evaluated by a gastroenterologist he was over 9 months old. He had tiny ulcerations all over the inside of his sigmoid colon. He was also developmentally delayed and underweight. We determined later, no thanks to the doctors, that he was reacting the inert ingredients in over the counter and prescription medications. Once we eliminated those, he improved a great deal. We found a great naturopath and with treatment he was finally able to tolerate solid foods starting at 13 months. Before that he reacted to absolutely everything. We still avoid corn, nuts, and bananas but otherwise he tolerates most foods. He has difficulty digesting some fruits and vegetables, but no more blood. He is almost caught up developmentally and now about 50th percentile on the growth charts. My suggestion, seek the assistance of a DAN! practitioner if your baby or child has food allergies. http://www.autismwebsite.com/ARI/dan/dan.htm
