For a few dollars more... avoid this example of man's inhumanity to man. (I'm referring to the mad rush by suffering parents and panicked kids to get "just the right" school supplies.)
Our kids' elementary school offers an alternative to the retail store's school supply section madhouse. They purchase the supplies for us and have it ready for the kids by the time the first day of school rolls around.
Will I pay more having done it this way? Probably. I know plenty of places I could go to obtain the proper supplies, but the dollar value of my time is such that it more than makes up for the difference... not to mention maintaining my sanity (or what's left of it).
