Anti-wrinkle pizza?
Categories: Nutrition & Supplements
It's probably no surprise that a pizza designed to make whoever eats it more beautiful would come from Italy. However, while the anti-aging pie is a big hit with some, many Italians aren't so sure about it.
The pizza was invented by Eugenio Luigi Iorio, a nutritionist, biochemist, and owner of the La Fabbica dei Sapori (The Taste Factor) restaurant. He makes his specialty pies with three times the amount of fiber found in more traditional pizzas, and uses wholemeal flour, which supposedly means they also contain more magnesium and iron. In addition, the vegetables and the sauce contain tomatoes, rocket, garlic, courgettes, basil, mushrooms, carrots and spinach -- all of which are said to have an anti-oxidizing effect, and thus prevent aging. But even though some very prominent Italian citizens (like Pope Benedict XVI, for instance), love the anti-aging pizza, others, like the True Neapolitan Pizza Association (a group that strives to protect the traditional Italian pizza), don't like it -- claiming that the wholemeal flour doesn't allow the crust to form properly.
Um. Who cares? A pizza that tastes good and helps people look younger is genius -- no matter what the crust looks like!

Isn't Pope Benedict actually German? ;)
Fortunately, I'm not Italian so nobody will be upset if I give the pizza a try.

The Pope is an Italian citizen, that's why he's referred to as Italian, his ethnicity is another thing. The traditional pizza tastes best to me, I'm glad they still take it serious. :-)

It actually sounds pretty darn healthy, though I've been eating all that healthy crap for years and it's not making me look any younger.
But heck, a pizza-eating beauty treatment--sure sounds more pleasant than an injection or a scalpel!
(At Crabby's grouchy health blog she explains why she's not aging all that gracefully herself. You too should eat more pizza or you may end up like:

I would certainly try it once. I am all for eating something that could make me look younger. I love pizza and haven't found to many that I really disliked so I say go for it.

Wouldn't three times the normal amount of fiber mean that the pizza also gives you diarrhea? No thanks!

Sounds good to me. I would be interested in trying the healthier pizza because I'm really into eating healthy for the sake of being healthy rather than because of anti-aging factors.

Food is what you make of it. Pizza isn't inherently bad; what you eat on it, how much, and how often is what makes it good or bad. I work at a pizza restaurant six nights a week and eat a personal pizza or calzone every night, and I am losing weight. To keep calories low, ask for extra sauce, light cheese, and add veggies such as spinach, zucchini, tomato, and fresh mushrooms on top. As for the article, anything high-fiber helps reduce wrinkles; you can make a homemade version of the pizza suggested, or eat oatmeal, toast, beans, and green veggies. Happy eating. :-)

Who cares whether it helps fight aging or not? All that really matters is if it tastes good or not. By the way, tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable.

But how much do you have to eat to see any results?

You eat a lot of pizza.
You get fat.
Your skin stretches.
No wrinkles!

If you eat enough of any kind of pizza you will fill out enough to hide most "wrinkles". It's the rolls that will show then.

I have been making pizzas similar to this for years...will even doctor up a frozen one this way....make my own marinara sauce loaded with chopped veggies......pizza includes lowfat mozarella .....broccoli,,,, lots of onions,,,,pepper wedges,, fresh tomatoes and have even used steamed green beans. Do not even miss the peperoni anymore. Use fresh chopped spinach,,,basil......create your own little wonder.....bread machine mixes have multigrain varieties....use that for the crust... We Americans love pizza,,,in any way, shape or form. Why not,, if you are gonna indulge in this delicacy,,,make it a healthy one?
