Celebrity Fitzness Report: Alicia Minshew of All My Children

Posted on Aug 9th 2007 6:04AM by Fitz K.

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

This week's featured celeb is Alicia Minshew of All My Children. She's been on the show since 2002, and plays Erica Kane's daughter (Erica Kane is played by the legendary soap star Susan Lucci). I want to tell you all what a true delight Alicia is. I've spent many days with a variety of celebrities, but Alicia sounds more like one of my silly girlfriends from college than a gorgeous star who graces daytime television five days a week. She's bubbly, sweet and totally down to earth. She's definitely someone fun to hang out with, I'm sure.

Alicia truly takes her health to heart. I believe her fabulous physique is merely a side effect of her dedication to healthy living. She's just launched her first instructional workout programs which you can check out at Pumpone.com/Alicia, and I'm expecting them to be just as captivating as she is.

Fitz: Tell me about your fitness routine.

Alicia: To stay fit, I work out with my trainer, Louis Corragio two to three times a week. We do light weights, Pilates, and yoga. I also run about four miles once or twice a week. If I can't train, I do some light weights and stretches in my dressing room! Gotta keep moving!

Fitz: What's on your mp3 player?

Alicia: I have a bit of everything! Green Day, Guns-N-Roses, Justin Timberlake, David Gray, Moby...quite a mix!

Fitz: I hear you eat very cleanly. Like....very clean. True?

Alicia: I eat organic as much as I can. Nothing processed. I eat a lot of fish, chicken, nuts, yogurt, brown rice, oats, and lots of fruits and veggies. I also drink a lot of water and green tea. I eat smaller portions all day long. I eat five to seven times a day as it keeps my energy up. I believe in nourishing my body with healthy, fresh organic foods.

Fitz: Does All My Children cater healthy food for the actors? How do you manage meals while on the set?

Alicia: All My Children only caters dinner once in a while, and sometimes the selection is good. I usually order my lunch at work to be delivered. NYC has so many great places to eat. I usually get fish and veggies, or chicken and brown rice.

Fitz: What's your favorite sin food?

Alicia: Ice cream and cookies!

Fitz: Soap stars are known for being scantily clad. Do you ever have 'girl moments' when you just feel gross? How do you deal with that?

Alicia: I do get girl moments of feeling gross and don't want to be in a bikini. Or...I don't want to do love scenes. It's usually when it's that time of the month, so I just ask the designers to put me in something less revealing and they are always cool with it. Ultimately they just want the actors to feel comfortable.

Fitz: Who inspires you to be fit?

Alicia: My mother and grandmother inspire me to be fit. My mother is 61 years old and a Pilates instructor in Florida. My Grandmother is 96 years old and still does her exercise bike for 30 minutes five times a week! She is amazing!

Fitz: How does having a trainer affect your workouts?

Alicia: Having a trainer changes up my workouts and keeps me from getting bored or lazy. He pushes me in a way I would not push myself! We train two to three times a week.

Fitz: If you were to choose one of your costars to fight in a boxing match, who would it be?

Alicia: I would have to box my co-star Sabine Singh. She plays Greenlee, my nemesis. We are the same size, but I'd win because I can kick ass! Though she is a tough cookie. I love her.

Fitz: How many push-ups can you do? If you don't know....I'll wait.

Alicia: I can do three sets of 20 push-ups.

Fitz: Where is your favorite vacation spot? Do you exercise on vacation?

Alicia: Big Sur, California is my favorite vacation spot. I do work out on vacation. It sets my tone for the whole day and gives me energy.

Fitz: You've been working on a new fitness podcast. Tell me about it.

Alicia: The work out series is for Pumpone. It provides personal workouts for you on your iPod or MP3 players and soon iPhones too. There are three different levels. There is more info on the website Pumpone.com/alicia.

Fitz: How did you land your great job on All My Children?

Alicia: I auditioned for AMC several times for other roles before landing the role of Kendall Hart. Judy Wison, the casting director, just kept calling me in until the right part came along. Thank God she believed in me!

Fitz: What is the strangest experience you've ever had with a fan?

Alicia: A young girl was so excited to see me, she fainted at my feet! Scared the hell out of me. And when she came to, she could not stop hugging me.
