Tattoos are more popular than ever it seems, especially since technology has made them less permanent than they used to be. Whether it's from a struggle to differentiate themselves from the crowd, a new crazy way of artistic expression, or simply because they ran out of space, some people have started getting tattoos on their eyeballs. And we're not talking about permanent makeup or anything else on the outside of the eye -- we're talking ink injected right into the cornea.

Corneal tattooing is dangerous for a number of reasons, because in addition to the usual tattoo risks the cornea version can include infection, perforation, hemorrhage, scarring, and blindness. It started as a means of repairing eye damage and covering scarring, but it's becoming a more and more popular cosmetic procedure.

So would you let a tattoo artist stick a needle in your eye? Talk about regret!

Remember these are the same people who get steel rods/spikes implanted in their skulls under the skin to have 'horns'. So I guess we shouldn't be surprised

People need to find better things to do with their time and money. I wouldnt let most tattoo artists near me let alone near my eye if I knew that the risks involved but were not limited to blindness

I think the idea is interesting. I would consider doing it, except for the risks. The consequences are much too high to pay if something did go wrong. Maybe they'll get to where they can improve it and make it a safer procedure. Old tattoos use to have metal in their ink. Not good for MRI's and such. But now there is no metal in the ink. Quality is better, and so are the utensils they use currently. I love (well-done) tatoos and have some myself. Some people do not view as a waste of money. There are numerous reasons why people get them done, but bothering to try to explain this to people appalled by them is tiring and bothersome. Oh, and genital peircings are a sexual thing. It improves it. Cheers!

this is just stupid. your risking going blind to look like someone who should have been in Underworld:Evolution.. come on people. there are kids starving.. there is slavery going on RIGHT HERE IN THE US!! and definately in 3rd world countries and you are wasting your money on going blind. what an investment!

example: Jake calls Susan on the phone to tell her of his investment.
Jake: "Hey Susan guess what!"
Susan:"Hey Jake. What is it?"
Jake: "I won the lottery!"

What people won't think of these days! I work in the eye care field, and this sounds like a VERY bad idea! Why would anyone want to risk permantely damaging their eyes like that?
Ink belongs on the skin, not in your corneas!!

come on.. its like saying.. "Oh hey guys lets run out and get infections and go blind from getting our EYEBALLS tattooed. YaY!"

Jeez.... this proves it... The UV Rays do fry brain cells.

My husband and I love tattoos and piercings, but we would NEVER even entertain the thought of tattooing our eyeballs because we would not want to take the risk of never being able to see our childrens faces again but on the same hand, we would never judge someone because they chose to do so. The way I look at it is, if a person does not value their eyes as much as most people do. Leave them alone. That is why we live in America, so we can have free will to do with our bodies as we see fit.

Some people just can't help themselves from needing to push the envelope... I have an idea. After they go blind from the eyeball tatooing, they can start doing eyeball piercing. The possibilities are limitless. All of a sudden, one would have two more places for his or her unique individual artistic expression.
