Nutrition labels coming to alcoholic drinks?
Categories: Fitness
Are those helpful (and tricky) "Nutrition Facts" labels headed to an alcoholic container near you? Possibly, if the U.S. Treasury Department gets its way. It's interesting here that the U.S. Treasury Department is the organization considering this, and not a food-related federal department. That federal department is considering a new rule that would require companies to put content, serving sizes and related nutrition information on alcoholic drink packaging.
Since drinks from beer to wine to spirits do contain calories and do have an affect on the human body (duh!), this makes sense I believe. Are you for it? Do you really want to know how many calories are in those beer bottles?

The Treasury Department?!!
I guess it doesn't matter to me, as long as it gets the lables on the bottles. I am definitely looking forward to knowing just how many calories I'm taking it on the occasion I do enjoy a little alcoholic beverage.

I've been wondering about this for years! It's such a great idea and I really hope that it actually goes into effect sometime soon. I too would like to see the difference between different beers & liquors.
Of course, I understand that alcohol has very little nutritional value (duh), but it'll be helpful to drink in moderation with the additional info.

This is great news...The funny thing is that I just posted an article on my blog called "Drink Beer to Increase Muscle Tone":

(sorry about the long URL)
Anyway, I believe that people can drink alcoholic beverages in moderation and still stay fit...knowing how many calories we are ingesting, would help a bunch!
Cheers,
Rusty

The Alcohol, Tobacco, Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) falls under the juristiction of the Treasury Department. They actually handle this matter.
Alcohol labeling used to be regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), controlled by the Justice Department. The institution of the Homeland Security Act caused this change.
But why wait 3 more years for this info when it's already available in a nice, concise form?
