How Many Calories ... in a Chicken Fajita Quesadilla from Chili's?
I love Tex Mex food, especially when it's loaded with my favourite ingredient: Cheese. But cheese isn't the healthiest thing out -- it's quite calorie-dense and it's loaded with fat -- so typically it's a diet no-no. But let's say you're craving some Tex Mex-style food so you head to the nearest chain establishment, say ... Chili's. There are a lot of menu items that sound like they could be healthy-ish and you end up going with something that doesn't look too bad -- a serving of the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. Fajitas on their own are pretty good for you -- they're basically veggies and some kind of meat served sizzling hot with tortillas, right? And while quesadillas aren't exactly low-cal, you're going to treat yourself tonight. Just how many calories will this meal set you back?
A) 560 cal, 15 g of fat
B) 880 cal, 32 g of fat
C) 1000 cal, 67 g of fat
D) 1830 cal, 95 g of fatThe answer is D) 1830 cal, 95 g of fat. Oh. My. Goodness! For an average sized woman like myself, that is more than a whole days' worth of eating. Of that, 47 g of fat is saturated, and the dish has a staggering 5300 g of sodium. In fact, take a look at Chili's nutritional info and you'll see that they don't offer a whole lot of healthy choices, unless you choose from the paltry 'guilt-free' section of the menu. Many items are over 1000 calories for a serving, and hardly any are under 600. I don't know if I'm surprised, but I'm a bit disappointed. I've always enjoyed their food when I need a break from cooking. But how could I not with all that extra fat?

Holy Crap!
I'm with Chris--for that many calories and that much fat, I'm sure as heck not going waste it Chili's. I'd rather go to a Real Mexican restaurant, or have a burger, or hell, that would get you about six Krispy Kremes, one every day for almost a week!
But cheese and dairy aren't bad for you in reasonable portions... no wait, yes they are... oops no, looks like they're not...

WHOA! Think about how many people choose that because they think it is a 'lighter' option!
I guess I am not too surprised about how unhealthy the food choices at these chain restaurants are. If I am going to drop that many calories on a meal, I sure as hell am not going to do it at Chili's!
