Kimkins: The new Atkin's?
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss
It seems like everyone and their dog has come up with some new fabulous way to lose weight. Here's another prime example: Kimkins. It's described as Atkins but low-fat. It was developed by a woman named Kimmer who lost 118 lbs in 11 months by following the eating plan she suggests.
It sounds viable but to be honest, I wouldn't give them my money because of their website. They have a link that says '10 Reasons to Join'. I clicked on it and it asks for my Email address, which I gave, but then I got an Email saying the I would be Emailed the 10 Reasons, one a day, and I haven't received them yet. I get that it was just a ploy to get my Email address, but why make a potential customer go through hoops just to find out why they should join? It seems a bit sketchy to me.
I'm curious to know -- have you tried Kimkins or a variant? Were you craving carbs like crazy?

Kimkins http://www.kimkins.com/329.html is probably the best program out there for fast weight loss - it works better than Atkins because of the lower fat content - I have found that I have no hunger or cravings on it.
I think it might be better if some common allergens (dairy) were not included - however goat and sheep milk products don't tend to aggravate the dairy sensitive, according to Caroline Sutherland (The Body Knows Diet) -
Kimkins doesn't include most other allergens (corn, soy, wheat, yeast) or sugar and alcohol - however, it does allow caffeine, which is probably best avoided - you can always have decaf.
This combination of low allergens and low fat, high protein may be the reason Kimkins works so well for so many people.

Hello
That comment above is obviously from an affiliate that makes money from anyone who signs up as a result of that link and hence the bias :)
Kimkins is a low carb low fat diet that is pretty much a VLCD (very low calorie diet) with most members at or below say 600 calories per day (hence the potential of fast weight loss) but without the medical supervision etc. It is very controversial, very gimmiky and plain stinks if you ask me.
Anyway I won't go into it here but feel free to check these out:

There is another one on the same blog called Kimkins and Kimmer which you might be interested in as well.

The Kimkins diet (and its originator, Kimmer) are very controversial. See a humongous discussion thread at Low Carb Friends: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/kimkins/502606-why-fascination-kimmer.html
There are also several blogs on the health hazards (both nutritional deficits and the kimkins forum advice that seems to encourage eating disorders) from the diet: http://kimkinssurvivors.wordpress.com/

The two posts above are also linked to a disgruntled former partner of the kimkins, who is unahppy that they are no longer making money on the program-Especially since it was well reviewed in an article in Woman's Day this year. There is also information related to this on slamboard, search google if in doubt.
The responder above also gives incorrect information related to the caloric content of kimkins members. There is a jumpstart Kimkins experiment that lasts only 3 days which is lower calorie, however the basic kimkins plan borders on 1000 calories approx., much more than patients of Gastric Bypass are able or medically surpervised to eat. Many members , more than 35,000 and growing have experienced successful healthy weightloss with kimkins. The only people who do not have medical supervision are members who do not choose to follow the suggestions of the diet which is to always contact a doctor when entering into ANY diet program.
I AM NOT an Affiliate but I have lost weight with this program and am healthy after 2 1/2 months of using it.

Firstly I have absolutely nothing to do with slamboard and have held this opinion long before they ever started blogging about it. But by all means please visit their site everybody because there are new pictures allegedly of Kimmer :)
As for the rest of the rubbish you spout, by all means please prove me wrong :)
The second link I provided in my initial post outlines all of their plans!

Hello. I joined Kimkins in Dec 2006. I have lost 40lbs and lowered my a1c from 5.9 to 4.8, I have lowered my cholesterol to 135 and both of my doctors are on board with this fully. I have lowered my bmi to 25. I lost 20 and then kept it off for 3 months then lost the rest since the end of may. I have thyroid issues and lupus. As I stated both of my doctors are aware of what I am doing and happy with what I am doing. I do nothing radical I lose slowly and steadily.

Kimkins is a dangerous crash/starvation diet based on the fraudulent claims of a very obese woman who never lost the weight at all. People are getting SICK from this diet! Please, I implore you, do NOT pay $60 to this woman and perpetuate her scam.

I really doubt that the folks at Atkins would appreciate the comparison between their very healthy Way of Eating, and the Kimkins Starvation Diet.
For those who are currently following Kimkins, please make an appointment to see your doctor, and take your fitday journal and show him what you have been eating. You are literally cannibalizing your body by following this diet. If you tell your doctor honestly what and how much you are eating, you know he won't support this way to lose weight.
If you have been following the plan for a few months, you may not yet be seeing the dangerous complications this diet can have. Or you may have been told that it was "normal" to be SNATT, or to lose your hair or to not have the energy to exercise.
Please be careful. This is your health and your life you are dealing with here.
Kimmer is NOT the Lady in the Red Dress. That picture is from a Russian Brides' website. She's been lying to you about the fact that she lost the weight. She's been lying about who she is, and she's been lying about the majority of her success stories on her website. She never did the Kimkins Diet, so she CAN'T honestly tell you that it is safe. The doctor on the KTLA news report equated this diet with Starvation, akin to Anorexia.
Please stop following this diet. It's dangerous.
Please don't wait for someone to die before you stop.
Just google Kimkins and you will be able to read all the information you need about how dangerous Kimkins really is.
Don't take my word for it. Read for yourselves. Discuss it with your doctor.
