Fake Colgate toothpaste found in more states

As Jonathon mentioned over two weeks ago, fake Colgate toothpaste has shown up in many states in the U.S., and now the product has turned up in Canada as well.Normally, fake products are not that dangerous -- but not in this case.

The counterfeit Colgate now found in the U.S. and Canada contains a poisonous chemical called diethylene glycol, an antifreeze component. Additionally, dangerous bacteria were found in the fake toothpaste as well.

I guess there is no official marking on official products that would let a distributor know if a product was real or fake, but maybe it has come down to this. Would an "impossible to fake" seal that would be attacked to every product package be a solution? While fake consumer products are not a huge threat to human life in most cases, this one sure does present that threat. Perhaps one day, something will be done before problems develop.
