China exporting more and more fresh foods to the U.S.

With more and more fresh food being imported from China these days, is the American public (and other countries as well) showing concerns about so much food coming from outside its own borders?

Just like manufactured food and products -- which make up a decent bulk of general merchandise found in every Wal-Mart and Target store -- China is becoming a huge exporter of food. Fresh food like strawberries and peaches are coming from China. Are product inspections and safety as paramount there as they are here?

Well, Chinese food exports are inspected upon entering the U.S., although in April of this year, 107 food imports from China were detained by the FDA at U.S. ports. Is that a good safety record? Compared against what? A more expensive (but for healthier) solution: buy organic foods (veggies and fruits) grown in the U.S. when possible.
