I have a magnificent personal training client, Jody. He recently turned 60 and has been training with me since Christmas Eve. He arrived at 320 pounds and has lost an amazing 40 already. He trains most days of the week and does a variety of exercises including: kickboxing on the heavy bag, treadmill walking, rebounding, weights, dancing and more.
He took off with a bang, but his progress has stalled over the past month. He's not on any particular diet, I've just given him the tools to make healthy eating choices throughout his day. He has the ability to be incredibly strong, and also the ability to say "screw it" and eat poorly too frequently lately (he's regained four pounds). He's tried to lose weight and failed too many times before, and I'm not going to allow him to fail this time. His goal is to lose at least 100 pounds which is completely reasonable and attainable.
Jody thrives on love and positive feedback, so since I am the fortunate trainer with access to the world via That's Fit .... I thought I'd ask you for your help. Have personal stories of success or words of encouragement to help get Jody moving again? Put em' in the comments section. I'll make sure Jody checks in to read them. Maybe your words will encourage the millions of other folks out there in his same situation as well. In return, I'll keep you posted on his progress and let you know how you're helping! Thanks in advance! Fitz

I've been there, and I know first hand how tough it can be. But the rewards are amazing. I started at 265lbs last year. It's taken me about 14months but I'm now down to 169. What an amazing year! It's so worth it! I can't even tell you how amazing I feel. And all the great feedback I get from friends and family is so encouraging. I still have some weight to drop, but I'm very close to my goal. Hang in there. And remember no food can trump how amazing you will feel if you stick with it.

Jody, you've done SO well for losing so much already! I know that losing weight is often about the everyday choices, but don't forget to look at the big picture, too. Remember how great it feels when you step on the scale and have lost weight? Remember how great it is when you can do or lift something that you couldn't before? Try to remember those good things the next time the negative thoughts creep in - "I'll stay in bed and workout tomorrow" or "this bit of cake won't do any harm", because the only person who can lose the weight is YOU and your everyday choices make the big things happen. You can do it, just keep your eyes on the goal!

Keep up that hard work! 40 pounds is an awesome accomplishment! I know keeping on track with workouts can be hard especially went the results start to slow down. Hitting a plateau has always been nerve racking. Keep pushing though and keep your eye on your goal. Best of luck to you!

Last year I hit 250 pounds and new I had to do something. 10 months later I'm down to 181 and have hit a few plateaus in the meantime. One important thing I learned, to keep losing the weight, no matter how hard I was working out, my diet mattered. You have to watch what you eat and eat the right foods to keep the pounds shredding off, this in addition to the hard work. Keep it up, you'll get to where you want to be.

Jody..Just take it 10 Pounds at a time so it wont be overwhelming...give yourself 5 weeks to lose 10 pounds. This is a lifelong challenge. There is no hurry to lose this weight, but we need to stay on track to not forget the importance of exercise and good eating. Dont forget about the water!! Ive been at this for almost 3 years and have lost 75 pounds and kept it off
