'Cocaine' energy drink renamed as 'Censored'
Categories: Celebs & Entertainment
The makers of the energy drink "Cocaine" have announced that they will be changing the name in response to criticism and pressure from the FDA and state officials saying the name glamorized illegal drug use. So, appropriately, the new name will be "Censored," because it has the "same rebellious and fun spirit" as the old name. The drink has over 1100 milligrams of caffeine, which puts it among the highest in its class. And of course, just like its competition Red Bull, RockStar, and Monster, it will contain other energizing ingredients like taurine and gaurana.

If you mean 280 rather than 1100 mg of caffeine, then that'd be a little bit more accurate...

Yes, 1100mg does seem like a lot! The source article could be incorrect...talk about feeling jittery!

It's still stupid.

I bet that the marketing company chose the name COCAINE intentionally. (And probably were ready to go with CENSORED) Bad Press is still press and it's FREE! Plus, anyone knows that if it's censored or banned, then it adds a certain allure. What you can't have, you suddenly can't live without!

As a former teacher, I have to say that I abhor the "energy" drinks...teens are already hyper enough! Also, caffeine in large quantites can cause a heart tachycardia....which can lead quickly to death. I think the FDA should outlaw them...they are dangerous. A former counselor, also.............Jane

You must be high on caffine from some other source. I checked 6 other web sites for information and found they all stated 280 milligrams of caffine.
Bloggers are not real reporters, not that it matters, reporters give false information too.

Does it really matter if it says 1100 mg or 208 mg? No matter what the articles say, it's still alot of caffein. That can't be good for you.

How about calling it "Flatline In A Can?" Or "CardioBurst!" After all, the proverbial "everyone" says that young people think they're invincible... a premise into which I've never quite bought.

Obviously the maker of this drink cannot be accused of false advertising, thus they have the right to call the drink whatever they want.
Seems to me that everyone that has posted so far is appalled that people should be able to consume a large dose of caffeine at once (hope people don't figure out that they can drink 5 cups of coffee in a row) that it won't be long till caffeine itself is on the DEAs list right next to cocaine.
It doesn't matter whether 1100mg of caffeine, or 50g of trans fats, is good for you or not; it's no one else's business outside of whoever chooses to consume it.

As an energy drink enthusiast I actually have tried this drink... I would never recommend it. In reality it does burn your throat as you drink it. After taking maybe 3 sips I threw out the can, i was still having stomach pains 20 minutes later. I can't see why anyone drinks this more than once.

As far as vices go, overdosing on caffeine is not the worst thing in the world. I just think it's cute that with the right marketing, teens can feel all rebellious and edgy drinking the same ingredient their grandparents get in their coffee at the Denny's Early Bird special.
But rock on, Censored dudes.

Well crap, I must need my Censored. I forgot to add my signature line to lure unsuspecting That'sFit readers to Crabby's Evil Fitness Empire. Sorry.
Crabby is completely uncensored at http://crankyfitness.blogspot.com/

I just wanted to comment on the fact that AOL.com ALWAYS has inaccurate articles...just like this one and what they wrote about the amount of caffeine.
Where the hell do they get their reporters from? The last time I read one of their articles, it said something about the fact that humans having opposable thumbs is what separates us from the apes. My f*cking 10 year old nephew knows that apes have opposable thumbs. I'm removing AOL.com as my homepage. I'd get more facts reading a tabloid.

They were not incorrect, it does contain 1,100 mg of caffeine. A large cup of Starbucks coffee has just under that amount.

Yep, the article is right. Also, a Starbucks "Grande" has the caffiene equilavent of 10 moutain dew sodas. Cheers to poster #6 (Jane) for bringing up the risks involved with energy drinks. It not only wrecks havoc with your heart but also your central nervous system. I would know. I have been living with a panic disorder for almost 5 years now and was advised that caffiene is literally a poison. If I drink too much or eat something with too much caffeine, I'll be in the hospital with panic attacks. This coming from a ex-coffee addict and mountain dew junkie... Point being----this stuff IS dangerous and I think the companies should put warning labels on their products to advise people of the potential risks involved with consuming it.

I think that is a great idea changing the name. Alot of teens drink these types of drinks and are we showing them a good example by calling an energy drink (COCAINE ) I for one am very happy that the name is being changed .

"cocaine" saying it promotes illegal drug use.
hmm well lets see a street name for "COCAINE" is "COKE"

I don't see anyone jumping down COCA-Cola to change thier product name..... just a thought
