Earning your best body
Posted on May 12th 2007 12:15PM by Fitz K.Training with purpose is important and I like to impart to my clients that for the most part, we can sculpt their bodies to be what we want it to be. Of course we can't crush bones or stretch limbs, but we can be leaner, more muscular, less flabby. We can create curves by increasing shoulder size, flattening our tummies, and lifting our tushies. Make sense? We can do our best with what we've been given.
Having said that. We have to earn it. Decide what you want to work towards before you create your program. Your goals may be low, you're goals may be high. Just understand that low goals require little effort, higher goals require more. I see a lot of people who want a six-pack yet aren't willing to give up sugary sodas. Some aren't willing to run as fast as I ask them to, or do the exercise homework I've assigned them while they're not with me.
As your online trainer I want you to understand two things. First, it's OK for you to be ambitious with your fitness levels. In fact, I think it's wonderful. Second very important thing that goes along with those ambitious fitness goals. If you want to LOOK like an athlete, you have to BEHAVE like an athlete.
The lean curvy muscles that grace the cover of sports and fitness magazines were earned. The owner of those amazing abs probably doesn't drink caloric beverages, indulge in sweets or chips frequently, or skip the gym. They probably drink lots of water, exercise at a challenging pace religiously, and pay close attention to the food they put in their mouth.
Those folks with those abs are no different than you. The only thing standing between your abs and theirs is desire, and perseverance. Set goals that you can live with. Choose short, middle, and long range finish lines. Increase your effort each time you exercise and make great choices at the kitchen table. You can be your best you, no doubt. You just have to earn it.
