Feel good about serving juice again!

Does your child love juice? Then this headline might make you breathe a sigh of relief -- juice is no longer the number one culprit in childhood obesity. It was once thought that children who drank 100% juice were more likely to become overweight than those who didn't, but a recent study found that juice intake appears to have no impact on a child's future weight.

The study also found that children who drink juice are more likely to consume whole fruits, and are also more likely to drink milk. I don't think that means that if you start serving your child juice every day, they're suddenly going to eating right, I think it just means that children who are served 100% fruit juice as opposed to soft drinks are more likely to have nutritious foods around their home.

Some experts are now saying that the issue of childhood obesity is complex, and that no one single food can be blamed for causing weight gain. So feel good about serving that juice, in moderation with other nutritious foods, of course. Just make sure that you're serving 100% juice and not a corn-syrup laden concoction. Some good choices? All natural (cloudy) apple juice has been getting a lot of press lately, and orange juice has always been a nutrition packed addition to any meal or snack.
