Bike-to-work week is next week!

We took a road trip this weekend, and were thrilled that we filled up when gas was $2.91 a gallon. That's because just hours later, it shot up to $3.25 and didn't go down the rest of the weekend. With gas prices soaring as summer approaches, it's easy to get fed up with the cost of your commute. But there is something you can do about it, while improving your fitness level at the same time -- ride your bike.

May is National Bike Month and next week -- May 14 to May 18 -- is Bike-to-Work Week. It may be an adjustment at first, but according to this article, once most people start commuting by bike, they don't look back. Most people can handle up to a 10-mile commute, and many cities have bike lanes for safer travel. Not only will you be building cardiovascular fitness and leg strength, you'll be virtually putting money back in your pocket.

We're lucky enough to live pretty close to my husband's office, and he's been biking to work for years. He's guaranteed at least 20 minutes of exercise every day, and he never has to look for a parking spot. Not sure whether commuting by bike is for you? May 18th is Bike-to-Work Day so take the opportunity to give it a try and find yourself in good company!
