Daily Fit Tip: Diversify your training

Posted on May 2nd 2007 5:03AM by Fitz K.

Everyone says try something new. But I mean REALLY try something new. I just returned from a fitness conference this weekend. Fitness conferences are a place were fitness instructors go to learn about the latest and greatest trends in our profession. The range of course types vary greatly and so do the participants in each one. As I sit back looking through the course guide, I feel really proud that there are so many options for fitness vehicles, and that our industry works to cater to everyone's needs.

The fitness industry is full of passion and creativity and I'm hoping it will help you find the motivation to become your physical and mental best. I thought today I'd list eleven examples of workouts from the conference. As your online trainer, I'd like you to choose three things you've never tried before and give them a try this month. You can try something new at the gym, grab a video, or just buy/borrow a piece of equipment and test it out. Diversifying your workouts will help your body to continue improving. Changing things up will help prevent weight-loss plateaus, increase muscular strength, and enhance overall fitness. Plus it will keep your mind stimulated...in a good way!

I encourage you to be open-minded and choose things that look like fun. Don't pigeon-hole yourself. I literally took the Urban Striptease class next to a man who was at least 60 years old. Who would have thought? He swung is leg over that chair just as well as I did. Extremely impressive! So, choose three and give em' a try. When you're done...try three more. Report back and let us know how things went as well. I can't wait to hear all about it!
