Addicted to exercise?

Posted on Apr 25th 2007 2:24PM by Jonathon Morgan

All of us want to be healthy people. Otherwise you wouldn't be scrolling through fitness blogs looking for tips on how to eat healthy and stay in shape, right?

However, even though obesity rates in the US have been called "epidemic," some people take exercise too far. The question is: what makes you an exercise addict?

As with any addiction, those who workout compulsively sacrifice time with their family and friends -- even put their health in jeopardy. If you're exercising more than 5 times a week for more than 1 hour a day, feeling guilty when you miss workouts, or exercising though sickness or injury, you may have a problem.

The intense, relentless physical activity resulting from exercise addiction can cause dangerous health issues -- such as bone loss and spinal scoliosis -- so if you recognize some of these symptoms in your own behavior, seek help before you do damage to your body.
