Although losing weight is one of the most difficult things for a person to do, I doubt many people would argue with the fact that keeping it off might be just as hard, if not harder. The maintenance is in part so darn difficult because it doesn't just require willpower for a specific period of time while you're focused and seeing results, it requires diligence to create permanent lifestyle and habit changes, even when you've met your goal and the satisfaction of seeing the effects is over. Fighting to stay the same is a completely different game than fighting for change. We've all heard of personal trainers, and some people have found great success in getting to fitness goals and sticking to a workout plan through the personalized attention. But what if exercising isn't necessarily your problem? Maybe you need a different kind of personal trainer: a personal nutrition coach.
Now it's true that many personal trainers include both fitness and nutritional aspects in their services, but if your diet habits are having a significantly negative impact on your weight or health (like when dealing with diagnosis like diabetes) then it doesn't hurt to hire an expert who specializes in diet and nutrition specifically.
Nutrition coaches can provide services in a variety of ways, including everything from one on one personal meetings to long-distance phone calls to internet websites and chats. Many of them include physical tests to determine if there are issues related to blood sugar, hormones, or chemistry, and they also work with their clients to establish psychological patterns and analyze the way things like stress affect the body. Then food diaries are usually involved, with recommendations in the way of diet, recipes, meals, etc. Regular follow-ups are scheduled, much the same as with a personal trainer. Some nutrition coaches even go shopping with clients and spend time at their homes helping them learn healthy cooking.
Of course these services aren't for everybody. If not because it's not your thing, then because it can be really expensive. The examples cited in this article ranged from $100 to 200 per hour all the way up to $700+ per session.
