Aspartame does/does not cause cancer?

Why are you relying on the FDA's comments. Do you think that they are going to admit to the fact that they approved a substance that has been linked to cancer or that many of their officials own stocks and retire to high level positions in the companies (i.e. Monsanto) who manufacture these chemical substances with dubious health benefits. Do you think for example that they will admit that aspartame turns to methenol alchohol in the body after it is exposed to liquids (esp. hot liquids) and that the CDC as astimated that ever since the inception of aspartame the rates of brain tumors has quadrupled. Do you also think that the FDA will admit to the fact that aspatame passed FDA trials by haveing mice ingest it encapsulated so that it would never get wet and that safer natural non-acid forming sweetners such as stevia have been suppressed for use in foods as a sweetner despite its extensive use in Japan for many years.

I too think the FDA hasn't been doing its job properly on a lot of this stuff. (Plus there's this cryptic reference in the AP article: "The FDA then conducted its own review of the study, despite not receiving additional data it had requested. "

Nice.

But these days there seem to be carcinogens lurking in virtually everything we eat, drink, and breathe. Sweeterers like Splenda & Equal have been researched a lot and nothing truly horrible enough has come out to make me stop using them. I like things sweet. If I gave them up I'd either be using a ton of sugar (not good for health either) or even Crabbier than I am now.

The FDA is too corrupt to be used as a viable source for health eating, vitamins, or even drugs for that matter. Sadly, if you want to be healthy, you have find reliable sources and be very proactive in your own health.
