How dangerous is YOUR shampoo?
Categories: Reviews & Products
I posted on an article once before about the cancer-causing chemical 1,4 Dioxane being present in many personal care products like shampoos, body washes, bar soaps, etc. It's definitely not a completely new concept that our showers and baths are full of dangerous by-products, but I can't help but be bothered by the fact that although I'm grateful people are reporting these things, what exactly can we do about it? We got the bad news already, give us some ideas for solutions! So I was encouraged today when I came across this link on how to find the safest and healthiest products -- finally something useful! And not only can I make a point to buy shampoo, make up, and other products with the "lowest concern" rating, but having lists like this out there for consumers may help motivate the manufacturers to give this issue some increased attention. So where does your favorite shampoo rank on the list?

As bizarre / unlikely / unhygienic it may seem - my better half 'gave up' shampoo over a decade ago. He 'rinses' it in the shower every day. He has the best head of hair for a man of 50 plus that I've ever come across.
Cheers

Absolute fear mongers! Just because some unscientific study(ies) show that there might be a chance of something someday maybe causing an issue...
This is rediculious!
You forgot to include that water can be toxic in large enough quantities...

This is a very true and scary situation that is occuring. Not many people may be knowledgeable of a quarter of cancer causing substances that we may be using on a daily basis and pointing out such useful information to the public is definately of use!!! Almost everything we consume has cancer causing ingredients and we don't even know it.
-In addition, my father is 55 years old and has never used shampoo and has a full head of thick, silky hair! (just take a look at all the ingredients on the shampoo bottles, half of which we don't know and better yet can't even pronounce)

There is numerous studies and articles that confirm there is many toxic chemicals in products we use everyday that we are unaware of. They are hidden behind names that aren't recognized, and aren't easily read/said. Scary to think there might be formaldehyde in your baby's shampoo? You bet! How about chemicals that aren't approved by the EPA in cleaners that you just spray on and wipe off, not rinse off? We are exposed to these things everyday! No wonder we are becoming an unhealthy society! People that work around hazardous chemicals have to be told by those companies what they are being exposed to. But some of those very same chemicals are in products that we use everyday, unaware of, because the product companies don't have to tell us - under the guise of "trade secrets" and "special recipes". Do some research and find out what you are using. People can be lazy, they want a quick fix, they want someone else to do the work/thinking for them. If it's on the store shelf, they trust it, assuming that the government has set up safety nets, so to speak. Well, sort of, but companies find loop holes in persuit of the dollar. What did people use before all these new "scientifically proven" products came to be? Be assured that it was 100% natural! Chemicals are NOT natural. The best solution? Find products that are natural, environmentally friendly, safe and non-toxic, even better if they are more economical! These dream products do exist out there! I've found them! I tell people about them, and they get it. Why take the chance that a product you use could cause a major, possibly life-threatening, issue down the way? I don't understand that thought process.

I've recently changed my skincare routine to strictly organic products, and I have seen such an amazing change in my complexion. Skin absorbs so much of what you put on it, so why would you useproducts that contain inorganic and unnecessecary chemicals. I found fantastic products at www.organicskinboutique.com. They have really high end organic skincare at awesome prices.

I really don't believe this. I took a look at that list, and almost everything is on there. How do we know we can be safe? How was we really be safe when there's so much of the personal hygiene products on there that we MUST use?
This isn't true.
