My take on "healthy" canned vegetables

Categories: Nutrition & Supplements

As Rigel pointed to earlier, a new study was recently released by the canned-food industry that concluded canned fruits and vegetables were just as healthy as the fresh version. While eating canned fruits and vegetables is a great alternative to not eating fruits and veggies at all, I have to take serious issue with this claim here.

In what may be a pretty clear conflict of interest, the canned food industry says that products under its watch are just as healthy as the fresh versions. I'm not believer in that at all and continue to think that fresh fruit and vegetables, and even frozen fruits and vegetables, are much more healthy than the canned kind. Why? The processing canned gods go through compared to fresh and frozen veggies and fruits -- there's the answer.

There are merits that canned foods are not exposed to the environment like fresh veggies and fruits may be -- which is why eating fresh fruits and veggies the day you buy them (or the next day) is very important. Frozen fruits and veggies? Just as good in my opinion. I'm not fan of the sodium-filled (in many cases) canned vegetables -- they just taste "dead" to me after eating the fresh kind.
