Dairy bacteria designed to fight viruses

It's odd how some medical developments and treatments end up being some of the strangest-sounding processed you've ever heard of, but this one qualifies. It appears that scientists have discovered a way for cheese-based bacterial cultures to fight attacks from bacteria-eating viruses. In other words, putting bacteria against the venerable virus.The news comes as a possible relief for companies that produce starter cultures that are used by the ice cream, cheese and dairy industry in consumer products globally.
Scientists needed a way to help protect bacteria used in dairy starter cultures from bacteria-eating viruses and may have found just that. Are virus-resistant designer bacterial cultures far behind? Most likely, not.
