Workplace Fitness: Steps to a less stressful commute
Categories: Motivation
We all have enough stress at work without experiencing it to and from work on top of things. Learning to relax and let things go isn't easy, but trying the following tips may help you have a better and less tense commute:Start off by taking a breather. Make a conscious effort to relax and set the right atmosphere for yourself -- be calm on purpose. This one surprised me, but believe it or not being calm and creating that atmosphere really will be a lot easier in a luxury vehicle. Going into debt over a buying pricey vehicle won't reduce stress for most of us, but if it does happen to be an option for you then by all means, consider it.
Aside from "new car scent" (haha), aromatherapy with cinnamon and peppermint has been shown to be relaxing. I don't think I've ever seen those little pine tree thingies in either of those two scents, though, so you might have to get a little more creative. And is there such a thing as a reasonable amount of distraction when in a car? According to the article, there is. Distract yourself from stress, but not from your driving (of course!) by watching other drivers at stoplights or listening to the radio. And along those lines, carpooling has been shown to decrease commute-related tension -- not only are you not always the one driving, but when bad things happen (think traffic jam) you have somebody to vent to.
Car exercises, like pulling up your shoulders, taking a deep breath and rolling your shoulders back, can help fend off fits of oncoming road rage, as well as being well-prepared before you even start. Take the few extra minutes to listen to traffic reports, the weather, etc. and leave a little early if you need to. And once you're going be smart about how you drive -- meaning the fast lane will clog with accidents first and the right lane, although it's sometimes slower, will be steadier and allow you easier access to the exits.

People who don't think that they can afford a luxury car can think of it this way: for the same price of buying a new non-luxury car, you can buy a tenderly-used luxury car. You would be amazed at how much luxury you can buy for the same price. It's well worth it to have a few years old luxury car for the same price, and they'll last forever with proper mainteance.

You obviously dont live in New York, dont live 75 miles away from your job and dont have to deal with NYC rush hour commuter traffic. No brand of luxury vehicle is gonna help you there,,,, unless you have a chauffeur! It only gets worse if your like me and you drive for a living. Exercises dont cut it, and believe me, no air freshner is gonna make it better, for anyone,, when you stuck in traffic, due to an accident, weather condtions, etc.

What works for me is to get to work an hour early, before the traffic gets bad in the morning, and stay an extra hour in the afternoon until it clears up. If your employer is agreeable, you may be able to start early and leave early or start late and leave late.

Just try driving on the 91fwy in California (any hour) and watch every piece of advise you give go right out the window followed by the cursed screams of insanity!
