What started as a ritzy celebration of Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit edition ended in a health scare when it was discovered that a caterer working for chef Wolfgang Puck may have exposed the celebrity guests to Hepatitis A.
While the risk to guests was thought to be low, the Los Angeles County health department told anyone who had eaten uncooked food at the party to seek treatment by the end of today.
Hepatitis A is carried in the feces of an infected person, and is contracted when a person ingests anything contaminated with that feces. Symptoms of the serious liver disease include fatigue, fever, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain and jaundice.
The caterer in question is now on medical leave, and, according to statement from Wolfgang Puck Catering, "...we remain confident that our guests will receive the highest standard of excellence for which Wolfgang Puck is known."
