What was that? Many don't recognize signs of tinnitus
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss
Research out of the UK indicates that the "noise pollution" you keep complaining about may be all in your head. Or, more accurately, in your ear.
Tinnitus -- a medical term referring to any noise heard in the ears or head -- affects 4.7 million in the UK, and a recent study finds that at least 25% sufferers originally assumed the noise they heard was coming from an exterior source. This misjudgment may be hindering those affected from seeking assessment and treatment.
While there is no cure for the condition, doctors are able to change the way your body responds to the noise -- making you less aware of it -- or use therapy to distract you from the persistent buzzing or ringing.
