Mistaken heart transplants working for infants

The ability of the rapidly developing human body never ceases to amaze me. In that vein, infants who have heart transplants just after being born have been known to receive donor hearts -- ones that did not match the recipients blood type, though. Not only are these recipients surviving, these transplants are showing the medical community that the immune systems in infants have a few oddities that can be bypassed using standard surgical techniques which allow terminally-ill babies to develop -- and develop normally.
Will this cut down on the number of kids who die each year waiting for heart transplants from "compatible" donors? Who knows -- but the outlook looks promising enough.
