Green, black or white -- which tea is right for you?
Categories: Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements
I'm trying to become a tea drinker. I like what I'm reading about tea and it's health benefits. The thing is, I really don't like tea, so it's going slowly. I think I'm finally starting to enjoy my morning cup; I brew a little black tea with my breakfast. Not a coffee drinker, I'm enjoying the small jolt of energy I'm getting from the caffeine and the idea that I don't have to rush right into my day, but instead can sit for a few minutes and savor my steaming brew. I want badly to add some sugar, some milk, maybe even a dash of heavenly cream, but I figure if I'm going to do this, I'm going to learn to do it right.
I chose black for the heart benefits, but I have green in my cupboard as well. Hearing more and more about white tea, I decided to do some reading and came across this helpful guide. Though not totally comprehensive, it's a good starter manual for tea-newbies like myself. Choosing your tea may be as simple as taste preference, or you may want to pick your flavor based on the health benefits it offers. For instance, studies done with white tea show that it may prevent cancer, while black tea promises to guard your heart. Green tea may even help you lose weight.
I may pick up some white tea at the grocery store this week. The article describes it as "light and sweet" and that sounds more to my liking than the bitterness of the black. Anyone have a favorite brand they'd like to share with us?

I drink a green and white tea blend (when I'm not drinking chai) and with just a little organic sugar, it's perfect. The flavor is, however, VERY different from your black tea that you've been drinking -- it'll be hard to believe they're both the same beverage!

How about some rooibos? or other herbals?
personally, i am drinking a lot of earl grey. The citrus tinge to it is really good.
In my cupboard, I have the earl grey, a few rooibos (pomegranite rooibos from celestial seasonings is a favorite!), and some CS sleepytime extra (extra means its got valerian root). Montana Tea & Spice Trading ( http://www.montanatea.com/ ) makes some good flavored teas as well.
If you want a good herbal hit of caffeine, look into some of the yerba mate blends. They are very popular in south america!

Try Teavana. I love their teas and they have a great variety.

Try Stash Tea based in Seattle...they have a great assortment of both bag tea and loose tea. I'm an avid tea drinker (decaf coffee every once in awhile)...drink black tea in the mornings, green tea after dinner, and fruity teas during the working day. I drink nothing but decaf teas, as caffeine doesn't agree with me. But enjoy tea drinking, it's wonderful!!!

Tazo tea is great...they have a variety of teas including black, white, green, and red. There are many good flavors, I really would recommend any of them. I think that Starbucks might have Tazo teas but I'm not sure.

The best white tea I've ever tried unfortunately was flavored, although delectably so...it's white pear from revolution teas. They also have an interesting earl grey green tea.

Most of the rest of the tea I get is Harney and Sons. I think they use a good quality tea, and are relatively available at most barnes and nobles bookstores.
Hot Cinnamon Sunset (also called hot cinnamon spice) tastes like redhots. Paris, one of their city blends, is a blend that reminds me distinctly of the french company fauchon, and has hints of earl grey, vanilla, and strawberry. They also put out Bangkok, a green tea with coconut.
Those are just flavored and all great without cream and sugar, but they put out dozens of teas with varying roasts and regions.
