When the heaviest man in the world wants to lose 1,000 pounds, there are probably nutrition and medical experts who want to study the process from start to finish.

Manuel Aribe of Mexico -- who weighed 1,200 pounds a year ago and wants to lose 1,000 pounds -- now weighs 800 pounds after following the "Zone" diet and wants to get to 200 pounds one day. That is, so he can stand on his own for the first time in a long time.

Aribe says he used to eat what normal Mexicans eat -- beans, rice, flower tortilla, corn tortilla, French fries, hamburgers, subs and pizzas -- and had a very sedentary job and lifestyle. If those are the "normal" foods, then yikes.
