President Bush unveils new health care plans

Today, President George W. Bush unveiled a plan to allow all Americans to buy health insurance as he previewed some subjects for his upcoming State of the Union address.

With an estimated 46 million Americans now lacking health insurance of any kind, who lack it, Bush said his approach would emphasize private health insurance coverage -- rather than expand on entitlements from the government -- an approach that the Democratically-controlled U.S. Congress advocates in one form or another.

Bush said in hiw weekly radio addres that "Our challenge is clear ... we must address these rising costs, so that more Americans can afford basic health insurance. And we need to do it without creating a new federal entitlement program or raising taxes."
