How do you control hunger?
Categories: Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
Sometimes it will strike me without warning: incredible hunger that makes it impossible to concentrate until I get something, anything, in my stomach. This is usually when I fall off my healthy wagon and raid the nearest convenience store of it's potatoe chip supply. I figure that if I can control these sudden bouts of hunger, I can ward off unhealthy eating all together, so now I carry around a piece of fruit with me everywhere. People laugh when an apple rolls out of my handbag as I'm looking for my wallet, but I'm the one laughing when the munchies attack them -- or offering them a piece of fruit.
What are your tips for controlling hunger? In addition to carrying fruit around with me, I try to have a healthy snack every few hours or so, and I try to get fiber a protein throughout the day to ward off hunger. AOL also has these great tips for controlling hunger -- you should check them out!

it's pretty simple; when i'm hungry i nourish my body with delicious, nutritious, and natural foods such as fresh veggies and fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, beans, and whole-grains. it'ps not rocket-science.
what's most curious to me is the wording in this (among other) articles about "CONTROLING hunger". as in, when your body feels it, try to make it go away by other means (gum, drinking tons of water, brush your teeth, etc) besides giving it what it needs, which is nourishment by healthy foods. of course this is different from eating from boredome, but think about it...if one is really that bored with one's life and has time to be bored enough to have nothing to do but eat and obsess over what to eat, one should rethink how they spend their time. go do something useful for the world and volunteer time to help the environment, the poor, an animal shelter, or at least take a walk. focusing on a cause leaves little time to be to be bored and dwell on food. i say, if you are physically hungry, eat something your body and mind will feel good about and move on...live your life.
voltaire knew it all along...focus on tending your garden (metaphorically, and perhaps literally, if that's what tickles you) and a good life will happen. an idle mind and body leads to nothing but trouble. if you build it, it will come.
