The worst foods: Things you should always avoid
Posted on Dec 29th 2006 3:32PM by Martha EdwardsWhat do you think of this list? Are they really the worst foods for you?
You only live once. Might as well enjoy it.
Now, I'm not saying eat donuts every day or fried chicken at every meal. I'm talking about balance and moderation.
People take it to the extreme way too often in the name of losing weight and being healthier, and failure rates are high. There are no bad foods, only overconsumption.
If you want a 400 calorie donut, pare back your dinner. If you want cheese, choose reduced fat cheese. There are so many choices.
This list is bunk. Cheeseburgers should not be lumped into the same classification as french fries. Cheeseburgers contain essential fatty acids and omega 3's, plus calcium. Cheeseburgers have also been proven to improve eye sight and reduce hair loss in male adults.
It's a well kept secret that McDonalds incorporates into their hamburger meat the same active ingredients as Rogaine hair formula. That explains why most men that eat at McDonalds have hairy backs.
I believe ice cream and creamy candy such as milk chocolate will clog those ateries as well as add to the waistline.I stay away from those two especially
I for one have always loved my canned soups, fried chicken, and donuts. But I have also learned how to make this stuff at home. I really feel with proper balance and moderation, you can eat this stuff. Now the Lunchables have never been on my shopping list, nor has processed meat.( You don't have to buy hotdogs and bologna to satisfy your children.) Fast food places should always be a no no, except for a treat for your self or children. Once you learn how to cook this stuff yourself, you can control what and how much of anything goes into it! Our society is one of excess and compulsiveness. Take the control back and eat better not more. I agree with Christina, if you want that 400 calorie doughnut, just cut back elsewhere.
We could have little more about the foods we should eat to reduce cholesdterol.
I've always considered a vegetable soup a healthy and low calorie meal. I know about the sodium but there are very few low sodium varieties available. I do use the reduced fat broccolli soup as a base and add my own left over cooked broccolli. I wish the soup companies would offer more low sodium varieties. Never knew trans fats were a problem in soups.
Might as well become a monk and move to Tibet. It's another "Gods little joke. If it tastes good it's not healthy? It goes the same line as: "if it feels good..."
I always say keep it moderate like everything in life, and please don't let nutrition become your religion and then try to convert me.- Thanks God I'm an ethiest.
I'd say fried chicken instead of caviar. What do you say?
I am married to a total vegetarian. She has been this for 28 years. No Meat of any kind, (she won't even touch it) I was never a vegetarian, but since we are together, I respect her way of eating. I wont say that, on occation, I'll cheat ( when I might be at the mall, or some place, where you are litterally surround by fast foods.I go to my Doctor quite often for blood work or some other issue I might feel, His evaluation. Since on this Type of eating, I must say that my blood pressure has dropped to 65/129, my pluse rate is 65 and I feel great. I might add, that I am 76. My PSA is 0.03 I work every day I am a Chef. I don't say that this should be everyones option, but It works for me.

It's hard for us Americans to do ANYTHING in moderation. I am at a good weight, and I maintain a healthy lifestyle... but then I see what goes on at Costco and it saddens me. Alll those grossly overweight people on scooters, pulling carts laden with the most awful food you'd never want to eat. It's like they're shooting themselves in the foot. Where's the self control? Do these people have a death wish?
go ahead and eat the donut...just don't eat a dozen! i eat just about everything just not all at once...
Same old, same old., bunch of tofu toting, oat bran gagging pseudoscientsts telling all the rest of us how to live. Celery stalks are not a substitute for Fritos no,matter how crucnhy the celery.
Go ahead and tell Hispanics to throw out the tortillas, echilladas, tacos, etc. We won't do that , either.
I don't care what I look like, I won't follow fads, I despise the "in crowd". Quit screwing with my food, I'm too old to mess up my life with trendy junk that air-head, batty eyed, screachy voiced, flat chested, devoid of any sense of talent, little girls try to push down my throat. Send them back to school to learn to read and comprehend.
Grapefruit can help lose weight and cholesterol. If already on statin drugs, do not eat grapefruit the same time you take the pills. A pharmacist suggested it. I eat dougnut once in a while, but I use the treadmill everyday.
take 4 grams of L-Arganine a day. converts to Nitric Oxide in the body...great for your heart circulation...
Milk Thistle for your liver
Flax seed good for your heart and has cancer fighting abilities
Pomegranite juice...the best antioxident amazing..just a little goes a long way..better than grape juice blueberries dark chocolate and red wine!
They said and still say, don't eat this don't eat that, it has this it has that and it's not good for your health. Well, my Dad ate this and ate that he did not care what it has. It's food and yes it's food. Foods are there to be eaten not to be put in a mitten. He is now over 96 and still alert and sharp as a knife. Why not try his way... fry bacon in butter.

Someone mentioned going to a fast food restaurant as a treat... ugh... This holiday season, I ordered some of the luscious Harry and David pears as a really special treat for our family. I do the same going to an excellent food market where I know the strawberries will be perfect, each and every one. I spend a little more but it teaches my kid that a treat can be something delicious -- it's secondary to her that it's good for you. Happy New Year!
