Black cohosh doesn't help with hot flashes...or does it?

A new study suggests that the popular herbal dietary supplement black cohosh failed to relieve hot flashes for women going through menopause. The NIH study tracked 351 women ages 45 to 55 for a year -- and found that black cohosh used by itself or together with other herbal supplements was no better than a placebo in relieving hot flashes.
Black cohosh is used as an alternative to risky hormone treatments during menopause, but according to this study, the popular dietary herb may not have any effect at all. I am curious -- have many of you found black cohosh to be an effective suppressant of hot flashes, regardless of what this study's results show?
