Daily Fit Tip: Wear sunscreen all year round
Categories: Daily Fit Tip, Fitness, Alternative & Green Health
Most people agree that the single best thing you can do for your skin is wear sunscreen. And during the summer months sunscreen is a common staple in most people's daily beauty routine. But what many people don't do is continue using sunscreen diligently even after the hot temperatures and days at the beach are over. The sun may be lower in the sky in the winter, and the days may be shorter, but the damaging rays are still there. Whether you spend time outdoors or not, the sun can find you! On your way to work in the car, through the windows at work, all the little exposures can really add up.
I am particularly bad about remembering sunscreen when I'm not in a swimsuit, but luckily in the winter there's a lot less exposed skin to worry about. It can be as easy as making sure your daily moisturizers for face and hands have an SPF ingredient, and wearing hats and sunglasses when outside. It's one of those details that doesn't make a huge difference right away, but you'll be happy you paid attention later when you have less wrinkles and sun damage!

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure you can't tan through a window, ditto on the "bad" UV rays... at least I think...

You can not only tan through a window, but you can
end up with a sunburn in some cases. BTDT so know
about this firsthand.

A few years ago some health magazine reported on a study done by a suntan lotion company(ies) which determined the protective ingredients used in the products actually cause skin cancer!
Hello! Am I the only person who remembers reading that information? Many doctors have said, "if you can't eat it, you shouldn't put it on your skin for what is in the ingredients is absorbed by your system." Everything in moderation people.

I have burned many times while driving in a car with closed windows. Wear long sleeves and lighter weight fabrics. Use sunscreen when necessary.
Mom was right!

Poisons in sun screen? Yea, right . . . and cell phones give you brain cancer and under-wire bras cause breast cancer.
Wear sun screen now or pay for endless facial treatments latter. Sun screen is the very best thing you can do to keep your skin looking young rather than leather-like and cracked.

Wear a hat, and wear light clothing. There was no sunscreen way back when white skin was in. Grandmother did know best. Blame Coco Channel for the tanning bonanza. She made tan skin the new fashion statement when she came back from vacation with a tan.

What did people do in the old days? They were healthier than we are and they had no sun screen. I beleive if one is going to get cancer, of any kinds they will get it, sunscreen or not.

Your sunscreen tip caught my eye, and i definitely agree that sunscreen wearing is much better for you that going without--EXCEPT for about 10 minutes a day, when your skin needs the sun to activate the Vitamin D in your body, to keep your bones strong.
I'm an orthopedic surgeon, and believe me--our bones really do need that bit of sun every so often. But only that much, or you're a candidate for melanoma, a nasty sometimes-slow-growing cancer that some people ignore for too long.

Wear sun screen, or don't wear sun screen??? It took 25 years to show up, but I got a skin cancer that I was told was from the sun.Back in a day I would sit in the sun and tan, paying for it now.
If I could go back.......I would wear the sun screen.

re: sunscreen
Just to confirm that i wrote the message about sunscreen being very very important for everyone : and i don't think our ancestors were necessarily 'healthier than we are'--in some ways maybe, as they were outdoors and doing healthy things as part of their daily lives, but they died of melanomas etc before anyone knew what they are.
So again--no tanning beds, but DO get outside at least 10 minutes a day without sunscreen, AND THEN put on your sunscreen [now that you've activated your Vitamin D to keep your bones etc healthy]. Happy new year! mc, M.D.
