Vegetarian diets do away with excess flab
Categories: Healthy Habits, Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
A new research study has shown that people who followed a vegetarian diet for at least one year lost more weight than those on a low-fat diet. In other words, toss the beef...and chicken and fish as well. The "vegetarians for a year" group also got rid of excess body flab in much higher amounts than those who continued to include meat in their diets.
Lora Burke, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh, stated that "you will lose weight and have significant improvements in your heart disease risk profile" -- if you stick to a vegetarian diet, that is.

I am a vegetarian, but I am one that eats fish. I have lost at least 30-35 lbs in a little less than a year. I still seem to be maintaining it. Everybody is not the same, and what is not working for one, may work very good for another. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and I gained weight, when I stoped smoking, (5 yrs ago). When I got tired of being fat (160 lbs, 5'1") I went on a diet. Only wheat rice, wheat bread, non fat milk, red potatoes, eggs and (low fat) cheese, lots of Vitamins, salad, fish (Especially salmon) and soy..not to mention veggies and fruit. But what's more, is I went to the GYM!...No matter what you do, you have to Exercise!!!

I find being a strict veg (no dairy or meat) keeps me svelte and small, especially for my age. I eat a fair amount of fat, too, and I still stay slim. The thing is, the fat is from plant foods and not animal so it doesn't "stick" as much. However, I don't think it's healthy to eat a high fat diet all the time, even plant foods, as it's a bit taxing for the liver...slim or not.
