Drink more water, lose more weight
What's the secret to losing weight and consistently keeping it off? How about drinking lots of water? Although there is a laundry list of diet techniques that spring up every single day, the long-term success of changing lifestyles compared to temporarily changing diets are in two different universes if you ask me -- I know since I've been in both universes before. New research shows that dieters (not lifestyle changers, sigh) stand to lose up to an extra five pounds per year by replacing sugary drinks with plain water. From personal experience, I started losing weight years ago once I dumped soft drinks for good, no matter how good they tasted or how they made me feel.
The fact is that I was tired of the yo-yo weight effect and wanted to find a start to a permanent lifestyle change. Out went 30+ years of soft drink memories and in came the daily 60 ounces of cold water per day. After seeing results within a few months, I stayed off soft drinks permanently and have not been back. Guess what? I don't miss them at all -- although it took years to get there. What about you -- have you tried to get off soft drinks, and why/why not did it work long-term for you?

Yeah, I stopped drinking soft drinks a few years ago (among other lifestyle changes) and I definitely noticed improvement in health and energy.
I drink a lot of water - I think I drink about 70, sometimes 140 ounces every day.

It worked for me. I gave up soda (etc) for water as part of a new eating plan. I hate soda now - something I'd never have expected. Try it. It works. You won't miss soda.

I like others have been up and down with he old weight poblem.I have to watch my weight and food intake due o a coroated artery I use to drink 3 to 4 diet soda's a day, plus coffee with sugar in it. Then I stated drinkig water. I had not realized how easy it was to becom dehydrated . I always thought you had to be thirsty to be dehydrated, Not true. you can be dehydrated and not be thirsty. I started substituting water for soda's not an easy ask @ first but when I got going good with the water, I felt good doing it, now I am up to, to 200 ounces a day. . I have more energy,I can thinkmore clearly, reasonbetter and my memory is even better as well and I sleep better @ night. Of course I have lost weight as well. When I get up in the mornings, instead of coffee or a soda I immediately drink 20 ounces of water.Wow what a change.

I used to drink soft drinks all the time. There was a time when I was having a coke a day (or close to it). The worst would be around the end of a semester when I needed to stay up cramming, I'd have a coke or two to keep me awake (any excuse would do back then).
For some reason after the end of last semester, I decided that I would just not drink crap any more. I have no idea what actually prompted the change because I only decided to be healthy a few months after that. I only drink water now, not even fruit juices (I used to drink OJ frequently, with pulp of course, but it's so acidic and low in anything nutritional that I'm better off eating an orange). Can't say that I miss the soft drinks. If I'm ever in a social situation where I feel the need to drink something "unhealthy" I go for the green ice tea or peach ice tea.
