For some people, food is like a drug

Posted on Oct 3rd 2006 7:00PM by Brigitte Dale
Researchers have just released some interesting new information about the way the human brain can react to food.

Basically, they found that for some obese people, their brain reacts the same way to food as a drug addict's brain reacts to the drugs. This helps explain why some people feel the need to eat when their stomach is already full. The brain is actually reacting to thoughts of food in areas normally associated with sensory impulses and emotion rather than physical needs.

Eventually, these findings might help doctors find new ways to help obese people lose weight or possibly (wouldn't this be wonderful) even prevent obesity entirely.
