Gut Busters: Trying to shrink my beer gut

That's Fit blogger Victor Agreda, Jr. blogs each week through the end of 2006 about his progress to whittle his waist.
Fact is, I don't drink beer that often. Maybe my gut evolved over time from more insidious means: lack of an exercise regimen and bad dietary habits. Whatever the reason, I have one, and I'm ready to shrink the darn thing. So each week I'm going to blog about my progress and what I'm doing to reduce my, uh, protrusion.
From now until next week I'll be researching methods, and when I find what sounds right to me (and my advisory panel), I'll report on a plan. Let the gut busting begin!

If that's your belly in the pic it looks just like mine, so I'll be interested to see what you come up with!

During your method research, I'd (of course) have to recommend you take a peek at The Lose Weight Diet: http://www.theloseweightdiet.com
It will cost you nothing and is as simple, healthy and practical as a diet can be. It's all about doing exactly what needs to be done while at the same time doing none of what isn't. There is no unnecessary effort, time or money being used.
It should solve all of your beer gut problems, except of course for the fuzzy bellybutton. =]

Strong core muscles act as your body's main source of power, control, movement and balance. The central zone, or core, of the body is the area between the hips and the sternum, including the abdominal and back muscles.

I have been putting my hands on my chest while laying on my back and doing raises. 6 all together. 30 with my legs up in the air and 30 with my legs tucked up close to my body. My intructor said it will also keep my lower back from aching...It is working in 2 months I lost 10 pounds and it looks like it mostly from my middle

I've been plagued by the gut too. I'm pretty fit in some ways and have been doing martial arts for years. I've lost weight doing Weight Watchers -- I really like their "Core" diet because it's one I can do without feeling starved -- but have never gotten skinny like those guys on TV.
Sigh-- Whatever happened to the barrel-chested he-man look? You know, the circus strongman, lifting a golden barbell in a wacky little onesie? You've gotta be a real man to pull that off. Maybe I should just stop dieting and start working on my handlebar mustache.

I've been trying to get around to losing my gut for a while now - no exercise and bad eating habits are definately where mine comes from. Can't wait to see your progress and how you get there - what a great idea!

Good luck Victor! I'm on the same quest right now, and I have to thank, at least in part, my Nike+iPod kit.

IMO, nothing will bust your gut like Pilates. I like the Jennifer Kries Pilates Method DVD with the "core contouring" section.

Hi Victor! Congratulations on making the decision to get serious, first of all. I hope you don't mind if I just offer a little advice. Don't get sucked into a diet plan. Instead make the commitment to a healthier lifestyle. We all know what is good and what is bad as far as food. Make healthier choices that you can live with in the long run. You shouldn't have to deprive yourself of anything you enjoy either. Just remember moderation.
As far as exercise, if you aren't happy working out on the treadmill then you will never stick with it. There must be something else cardio-like that you enjoy. How about basketball or raquetball? Exercise doesn't have to be torture. If you want to lose fat anywhere, you do need cardio though. Weightlifting is great also, but not without cardio. I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but I have found things I enjoy to make it easier. Weightlifting, cardio and diet all work together and will give you results together. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your updates.
