Gain a sharper image during National Eye Exam Month

Do you find yourself sitting in the chair closer to the TV for a clearer view? Or do you have to hold the magazine at arm's length to finish that entertaining article? If so, it's probably time for an eye exam. August is National Eye Exam Month, which seems timely as we tackle our to-do lists before the kids go back to school and the lazy days of summer come to an end.

Even if you think your eyes are healthy, it's important to get regular check-ups to prevent any issues. The Mayo Clinic outlines suggested exam timetables for pre-schoolers through senior citizens, including those with diseases like diabetes that could impact sight. And if you have a child who hasn't yet had an eye exam -- or it's been awhile for you -- Mayo also identifies step-by-step what to expect during your exam and how to prepare for it.

So, if you don't want to continue squinting at those report cards, interoffice memos, or (healthy) recipe books, then make an appointment to get in that chair and read those letters on the wall. Maybe you'll even score some of those cool doctor's office-issued sunglasses! Not exactly a fashion statement but certain to shield your eyes from the summer sun.
